Being Mystic in Touch with God, my first book, launches June 24.  Yesterday I received assistance from Melissa Mateuse and Lisa Winstantley, 2 wonderful staff members at Indigo HQ, on King St. West, in Toronto.  I am so pleased that managers have been sent my request form for book signings in Chapter-Indigo stores in Ontario. Happier yet, when I received a reply of interest from Stoney Creek store #408 Heritage Green.  I have many friends who assume that once you write your book your job is over, fini.  Mais, non!  It is just beginning.  It's fantastic to write a book, but without word of mouth, and marketing you will end up with a warehouse of books gathering dust.


Writers must remember the P words.  Persist, perseverance and promote.

Although the summer is looked at as the 'slow' time in the publishing world, i am grateful that Being Mystic in Touch with God is being released in the summer.  It's much easier to get around Ontario in the sunshine than in mid-February.  I am ok with the occasional rain.  Occasional being the operative word.

Laughs at my friend's funeral today

The world has certainly changed since I was a kid.  Toys turned into video games, the mini skirt has morphed into it's okay for the world to see your naked pics online and now there's laughter at funerals.  When  my Pappy died he was laid out at home and visitors came to my Nana's house into the wee small hours of the morning.  That was the first time Betsy Balega ever stayed up till 1 am.  Everyone spoke in hushed tones and were deadly serious, no pun intended.  A far cry from the Newbiggings Funeral Home at 733 Mt. Pleasant Road today at 11 am when I joined my neighbors to say au revoir (till we meet again) to Lorrain Bourgois.  Everyone was asked to share their happy, funny, great memories of Lorraine.  I know that the fear of speaking in public is the #1 fear in most peoples mind/body and spirit.  I decided to break the ice and get the stories started.  I was followed by 3 others before Doug, Lorraine's oldest son gave us his memories of mum.  They were all great stories and memories.  Lorraine was something.  We met 5 years ago and what I learned was she had patience, never judged, was giving, compassionate, caring and loved to laugh.  We sointently did that today at her memorial service.  It was wonderful to have laughter among the tears.  As Shakespeare said, parting is such sweet sorrow.  I used to tell my mom, "I cry at funerals because I can't go with them."  The best part of today was knowing that at some future date in time there will be people, like those who loved Lorraine and laughed, to remember me someday and share my funny side.  Until then take today and appreciate those people who are in your life.  They are in it for a reason.  And you are in theirs for a reason.  Time is precious.  Don't waste it.  Now go out and make some marvelous memories to remember next winter.

Summer Forecast Edgar Cacye was Right

Rain has returned to Toronto and will be falling on the citizens and the GTA for the next 5 days. Many people are asking me about the flooding in the USA.  Does anyone recall what Edgar Cayce predicted back in the late 20th century?  It was that the Mississippi would double in width size and flood the cities and towns along its banks.  Watching NBC Nightly News this past week, Brian Williams reported that the Mississippi, which is a mile and a half wide is now 3  miles wide.  Exactly double in its width.  Things that make ya go hmmmmm.  Wacky weather is everywhere.  No region on earth will escape it.  Happy to hear that Environment Canada is predicting a hot summer for the city of Toronto this year.  I'll take the heat any day or night. Someone asked me this afternoon if I think Aston C. will be a hit on Two and a Half Men.  He'll bring in new viewers but the ratings gods will have the final say.  Until then we'll just have to get through the long hot summer watching America's Got Talent.  Enjoy!

Catholics around the world are familiar with the apparition of the Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal 94 years ago today.  She appeared to 3 shepherd children, Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia, as they tended their flock of sheep. She returned each 13th day of the month giving warnings and predictions about world affairs, WWI and the coming days when both Francisco and Jacinta would soon join her and her son, Jesus, in heaven.  The Virgin Mary gave the time that WWI would end, but also delivered the stern warning that if Mankind did not change its way there would be a second and more terrible war to follow.  Sadly, her warning wasn't heeded and WWII began in 1939.  There was a Third Message at Fatima, which was to be revealed in 1960 to Catholics at Sunday Mass.  At the appointed time this revelation was not given.  Catholics pondered then and through the following decades why the 3rd Secret of Fatima was not revealed.  People speculated that Pope Pius XII read the secret and then died of shock.  Neither Pius XII nor John XXIII ever  made the secret known.    It is no coincidence that Pope John Paul escaped an assassination attempt on May 13, 1981, 64 years to the day of Mary's first visit to the children at Fatima.  Pope John Paul II credited Our Lady of Fatima with guiding the bullet through his body, missing vital organs by just fractions of an inch.  After his recovery he made a pilgrimage to Fatima and on March 25, 1984, he consecrated the world, and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  She had requested this consecration to ensure peace in the future.  For whatever reasons, Pius XII and John XXIII dragged their feet at her request.  Another one of Mary's prophecies was that if the world did not change its sinful ways entire nations would disappear in the future.  Remember that the next time you see a wild weather report. Big 5 Oil - Newt Gingrich runs in 2012

When my podcast, Tuning in with Betsy, was in its infancy I booked Rick Tyler, the Communications Director for Newt Gingrich as one of my first guests.  RT was a very busy man and had just 15 minutes to share his knowledge of what its like to work with the ex Speaker of the House.  That ex Speaker now has his eyes on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.  Gee, elections are like Christmas, seems like it was just last month. In Canada, it was at the beginning of this merry month of May.  Unfortunately in the USA the Presidential election begin 2 years prior to the actual election day.  In Canada, the government can collapse whenever a leader decides to throw a hissy fit.  Like a bully in the schoolyard, who always has to get his own way, is one of the reasons I stay away from Politics.  The others are, i hate liars, cheats and thieves. Ok, I should never use the word hate, so I shall edit myself, and say I loathe, despise and can't stand the sight or sound of liars, cheats and thieves.  Am I naming any particular politician?  No, I am smearing them with the same paint brush. And if you think I am being Miss Meany today, just name 3 politicians that haven't been touched by scandal, kickbacks, marriage problems, additictins or bad press.  There.  I made my point.  Do I think the Newt will win?  No, I do not. And neither do I think Obama will have a repeat performance on election day, should he decide to toss his hat into the ring.  I do think we will see the Republicans begin tossing their hats in a lot sooner than the Democrats.  I think they are eager to return to their version of the status quo in Washington.  On another note, I do love the fact that the Big 5 oil companies are due to be grilled like a peanut butter and banana Elvis Sandwich today in Washington.  Why are they getting tax cuts, tax breaks, and every other monetary advantage, not to mention they are making billions of dollars every day, while the American people are getting screwed without experiencing intercourse?  The only thing being exhausted after a wicked workout is the American peoples wallets.   Canada is mirroring you on that point.  On Tuesday the gossip was that a litre of gas would be going up 6 cents.  Sure enough, as sure as Nostradamus predicted Hitler and WWII, Wednesday morning, gas rose, like Lazarus, exactly 6 cents.  Then, on Wednesday the gossip was that the price of gas would fall 6 cents.  Is this a freakin yo yo competition?  How bleeping stoopid do these Oil Barons think we are?  Gee, I can't wait for the antichrist to show up.  We are being conditioned by Big Oil to be controlled, feel helpless and obey.  Next thing ya know we'll have to get tatooed to get gas.  Hmmm.  A mark of the Beast?  Nothing surprises me anymore.  I wish you all peace, compassion and patience as the summer travel plans may be downsized.  it should be Big Oil that is decreased not the American people's cash flow.

Arnold Maria Separation Predicted 3 years ago

I am often asked the pros and cons of being an accurate psychic.  The pros are easy to point out, knowing when to dump certain currencies, knowing when not to go on vacation, knowing when an earthquake will strike, but the cons are seeing death of family and close friends, break ups and divorces whether they are friends or people I have never met.  Arnold and Maria fall into that latter category.  In 2008 I did a prediction show on Tuning in with Betsy and that was one of my forecasts.  At the time I received an awful lot of negative e-mail.  I hate to say I told you so, but I did tell you.  Let's hope that this life change for Maria is a win-win situation with a return to Dateline in her future.

It's not even mid May and I can't wait till June.  No, not just because my book, Being Mystic in Touch with God launches on Friday, June24th.  I'll be heading to Niagara Falls throughout the joyous month of June, to volunteer at the Niagara Literary Festival.  Lots of authors, events, readings and signings.  Not to mention The Falls, the press, the vendors, publishers and new friends I'll be making.  Events will be held not only in Niagara Falls, but also in Fort Erie, Welland and St. Catharines.  The public library will be hosting events as well as The Grind coffee shop.  But the venue I look forward to most of all is The Paris Crepes Bistro.  A little bit of gay Paree in The Falls. Today while reading the Toronto Sun, I glanced at the This Day in History column.  There was a familiar figure.  I knew him instantly.  No, not 
Steven Tyler, Sitting Bull.  It was on this day on May 5, 1877, that Sitting Bull entered Canada after being harassed by the U.S. 7th Cavalry after winning the Battle of the Little Big Horn.  Gee, we Americans are such sore losers aren't we.  We don't take losing lightly.

Buffalo in America, were like untainted salmon today, getting pretty scarce to find.  So Sitting Bull headed north where he and his tribe enjoyed the herds that roamed Canada. Things were heavenly for 4 years but eventually this great spiritual leader made the fatal decision to return to the USA after being promised a life of prosperity back in the USA if he agreed to being confined on a reservation.  He felt he had no where else to turn with the decimation of his people as they became ill and the disappearing food supply in Canada.  Believing the PR fed to him by cavalry officers, Sitting Bull made Standing Rock, South Dakota his home.  Being true to himself Sitting Bull met the Great Spirit after being murdered for practicing the Ghost Dance.

 

The US Cavalry and US Government were threatened by the Ghost  Dance.  It celebrated the belief that a redeemer would come and be the saviour of the Aboriginal people.  It had to be stopped.  It was.  Who knew Black Ops went back so far.

Miracle in Toronto NO RAIN! and a hot summer forecast Yea God!

I did a very foolish thing this past March.  It was a super bright, warm Sunday morning, and after Mass I put on the CBS show, Sunday Morning.  It was so bright and sunny, I had to block out the sun which was pouring in through my windows.   I couldn't see the people on the tv screen.  Drapes weren't enough so I added aluminum foil, taped it to the windows to stop the glare of the sun.  Yes, you read that correctly.  I was not happy with that sunshine blinding me and hitting my tv screen like a Star Wars laser.  Oh what a goof I was.  Ever since I did the tin foil trick, the only thing pouring in Toronto has been rain.   I think i jinxed the weather no matter what the Weather Channel says.  I am guilty. 

But, good news out of the weather forecast today.  Environment Canada predicts, no, they state, it will be a hot, humid summer for Toronto.  Thank You, God and mea culpa.  I shall never ever tempt the fates of weather again as long as I shall live upon God's green earth.

Someone asked me this afternoon if I believe the weather czars in Canada.  Hell yes I do.  These are the same pundits who told me in the winter that Ontario would have a cooler than usual spring.  And that prediction has come true to everyone's dismay.

So, if you are the type to abhor the 3 H Forecasts, Hot, Humid and Hazy get over it right now on May 4, 2011.  Like The Temptations sang all those years ago, "Get Ready."  And it can't come soon eonough for me!

I'll raise a toast to picnic ants, ants on a diet, mosquitos, horseflies, houseflies, bumble bees, the humble pesky fly (bless his buzzy little wings),  and all things summer.  I found 2 small black bugs in my home today.  Neither one of them belonged where I found them.  But deep down truth be told I was actually glad to see them.  It's been a long cold lonely winter as George sang.  Look!  It's a bird, it's a plane, no!  Here comes the sun!  And the tin foil box is long gone!

USA Overshadows Canadian Election

Ever since Sunday evening the US networks have been broadcasting all the news every American has wanted to hear for the past 10 years:  Ding Dong Bin Laden is laid to the bottom of the sea.  Yeeha!  But, north of 49 there was a federal election being held yesterday. You did NOT need a crystal ball to know the results. The more things change the more they remain the same and so it is in Canada today.  Harper is still the prime minister.  Of course he is. This is his third election, no surprise then that he won.  The kicker this time around is that the red party is done like dinner, like a lame duck whose goose got cooked at the Broil setting. Then there is the orange party whose fearless leader was found at the Velvet Touch Massage Parlour (I am not making this up dear Yanks) in Chinatown back in 2006.  Even that didn't stop his party from coming in a cool second.  And so it is today in Canada.  Did I expect anything to turn out differently?  Hell, no.  The result was so negative for the red party their fearless leader is set to resign today if he already hasn't.  And the best news yet is that this is definitely an omen of what is to come to pass in October, 2011 when fearless premier of Ontario has also called an election.  Provincial fearless leader of the aforementioned red party. OK smart arse, get your resignation ready to tender because you sure as hell aren't going to be re-elected.  Can you feel the hatred in the province?  It is palpable.  You and your HST shall bite the dust.  You and Iggy gotta get out of Dodge. One down, one to go. There is a God and I am thanking Him right now.

Hollywood couldn't have scripted it better.  After 10 years, karma finally caught up with Osama bin Laden yesterday.  Would anyone care to join me in the Halleluiah (Jesus) Chorus?  There is a God.  But, we Americans already know that.  And during our darkest hours we know we are not forgotten, neither is every person who died in the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001.  Whether they were American, Canadian, European, man, woman or child, you will never be forgotten.  Whether you were NYFD, or NYPD, a financier, a waitress, a garbage collector you all mattered.  And you always will. 

Yes, it's been quite the celebration in the good 'ole USA since last night when spontaenous crowds gathered outside the White House, in Philadelphia (let Freedom Ring you old cracked Bell you), at the Phillies Mets game, in Times Square, at Gound Zero.  We came, we sang, we cheered, and popped champagne.

I'm as happy as a pig in slop.  I broke a building rule today.  No decorations or flag of a country can hang from any window.  Guess what?  My building is named, The Americana.     Is this a coincidence?  I think not.
There is an American flag in one of the windows today.

To quote that American icon,  Woody Woodpecker  . . .   Guess who?
